ListSTAR/SMTP vs ListSTAR/POP

Q. What are the differences between the SMTP and POP3 versions of ListSTAR?
A. There are a few differences between ListSTAR/SMTP and ListSTAR/POP.


• ListSTAR/SMTP requires a full time internet connection whereas ListSTAR/POP can be used over a dial-up connection (or other connection that is not full time).
• ListSTAR/SMTP is threaded and can send multiple email messages at a time, ListSTAR/POP can not.
• ListSTAR/SMTP has a built in mail server, and can receive messages directly from other mail servers, ListSTAR/POP does not and must use a POP3 login to a mail server in order to retrieve and send messages.

Q. Should I use ListSTAR/SMTP or ListSTAR/POP?
A. If you don't have a full time internet connection, you must use ListSTAR/POP. If you do have a full time connection, you can still use ListSTAR/POP if you are running only a few lists that are not very busy. If your lists are busy, or have a lot of subscribers, you'd be much better off running ListSTAR/SMTP.
